Connect your AI

Gemmein works with the AI you already use. There are three ways in: a chat app such as ChatGPT or Claude, a coding tool on your computer, or the guide on its own. Each builds the same app on the same Gemmein account, and you can move between them.

The three ways

A chat app: ChatGPT or Claude

Add Gemmein once, at this address:

https://api.gemmein.com/mcp
  • ChatGPT (on a computer, at chatgpt.com): in the left sidebar, open Plugins. At the top right, choose Add, then Add custom MCP server. Name it Gemmein, paste the address, choose OAuth, and approve on app.gemmein.com. Works on every ChatGPT plan, Free included.
  • Claude (claude.ai on the web or the desktop app): Customize → Connectors → + Add → Add custom connector. Name it Gemmein, paste the address, under Authentication choose Sign in when needed, then Add. The first time it needs your app, it opens app.gemmein.com for you to approve. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner adds it in Organization settings → Connectors, then each member connects.
  • Lovable, Replit, Bolt, v0 and others: the steps for each are on the hosted connector.

Then tell it what you want, in plain words. A chat app has no files on your computer, so your app's settings live in Gemmein and your site is published straight from the chat.

A coding tool on your computer

Claude Code, Cursor and Codex work in your project folder. Your app's settings are files there (the gemmein/ folder), and the command line does the rest:

npx gemmein dev # the whole app on your computer, free, no account
npx gemmein login # approve this computer in your browser (7 days)
npx gemmein sync # send the gemmein/ files to your app's Development side
npx gemmein publish # put your built site on the private preview

Give your coding tool Gemmein's own tools, too. They read the guide, explain rules and errors, and check your app's safety rules while it builds:

claude mcp add gemmein -- npx -y @gemmein/mcp # Claude Code
{ "gemmein": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "@gemmein/mcp"] } } # Cursor and others

In Claude Code, the Gemmein plugin adds the same tools and a skill that walks the first hour:

/plugin marketplace add gemmeinhq/gemmein-release
/plugin install gemmein@gemmein

A coding tool can also use the hosted connector, so it acts on your app the way a chat app does: claude mcp add --transport http gemmein https://api.gemmein.com/mcp. The tools are listed on MCP server.

Just the guide

Any AI can read how Gemmein works and write the code from it:

Read https://docs.gemmein.com/llms.txt and take my app to its first paying customer.

Reading the guide needs no account and changes nothing. To build and publish, connect one of the other two.

Development and Live

Every app has two sides. Development is where your AI builds: test members, the private preview of your site and Stripe's sandbox. Live is what your customers use. Your AI builds freely in Development once you approve it. It changes Live only when you approve each change. Deleting something in Development never touches Live: Live keeps its own copy until you approve deleting it there. See Development and Live.

What needs your approval

What your AI doesWhat you do
Builds, tests and deletes in Development, acts on your test members, and publishes to your private preview (or takes it offline)Approve the connection once, in your browser. A chat app's approval lasts 30 days; a computer's lasts 7 days.
Reads how Live is doing (people, revenue, errors, messages)Allow Live reads on the approval page. It is a separate line, and changes nothing.
Changes one customer: replies to a message, gives credits, cancels or suspends, deletes a customer, runs an automation againApprove that one change in your browser.
Changes how your business runs: products and prices, domains, email sending, Stripe, keys, deleting a collection, relay or AI tool in Live, putting a version live, taking the live site offlineApprove it in your browser with the code Gemmein emails, and your authenticator code if you set one up.
Goes live the first timeApprove it in your browser, then pay for your plan. No code. If your account already pays for a plan, the approval shows the plan and the price added to your bill.

Some things never happen from a chat, whatever you approve: refunds (made in Stripe), revealing or rotating keys, payouts and bank settings, deleting the app or your account, and bulk exports or bulk email. A secret key, Stripe's key, an AI provider's key and DNS records are yours: your AI hands you the link, and never sees them.

Switching between them

All three build the same app, so you can start in a chat and carry on in a coding tool, or the other way round:

  • From a chat to a coding tool. Connect the coding tool the same way you connected the chat (claude mcp add --transport http gemmein https://api.gemmein.com/mcp in Claude Code) and approve it. It sees the same app: your customers' sign-in, data rules, payments and the preview you built. Its pull tool writes the app's settings into your project as the gemmein/ folder, and npx gemmein site pull downloads the site as a zip.
  • From a coding tool to a chat. Add Gemmein to ChatGPT or Claude and approve it. It sees what your last npx gemmein sync and npx gemmein publish sent.
  • Both at once. They work on the same Development side. A sync shows the difference first, then replaces what Development holds for each file it sends, so the last one to send a file wins.

Troubleshooting
